Gamma Sigma Delta
Member Criteria
The following are eligible for election to membership in the Mississippi State University Chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta:
- Undergraduate nominees, the total number not to exceed 15 percent of the seniors in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the School of Human Sciences, and the College of Forest Resources, must be members of the senior class of their college o r school who will complete the requirements for graduation during the academic year (September 1 through August 31) in which they are being considered for membership and who have the following qualifications:
- Are considered to be of high moral character.
- Have been in residence in their college or school at least one academic year before election.
- Are in the upper 15 percent scholastically of the graduating class of Mississippi State University.
- Have attained at least a 3.25 quality point average on work at Mississippi State University.
- Persons who have become eligible since the immediately preceding nomination period shall be eligible for consideration even though the degree has been granted in the interim.
- Nominees from the College of Veterinary Medicine who meet the following qualifications:
- Are considered to be of high moral character.
- Have shown promise of making worthwhile contributions to their profession.
- Are in the upper 15 percent, scholastically, of the College of Veterinary Medicine graduates.
- Graduate student nominees who meet the following requirements:
- Have shown superior ability to carry on research and/or advanced study in agriculture or in other sciences where the individual student's area of study or research is directly related to agriculture.
- Have shown promise of making worthwhile contributions in these fields.
- Candidates for the masters degree must have completed at least 12 graduate credit hours of their graduate program (2/5 of 30 hours) at Mississippi State University. Ph.D. candidates must have passed their preliminary examination.
- Have attained a 3.5 average or better for work taken for graduate credit toward the advanced degree at Mississippi State University.
- Persons who have become eligible since the immediately preceding nomination period shall be eligible for consideration, even though the degree has been granted in the interim.
- Faculty nominees may be elected from members of the faculty in the Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine who have been engaged in work in agriculture or in science related to agriculture for at least three years and have shown exce ptional ability as teachers or investigators. Not more than 25 percent of the faculty members of any department shall be elected to membership in any one year except one member per year may be elected from a department with fewer than four faculty members .
- Alumni nominees may be elected from the alumni of the College of Agriculture and and Life Sciences, the School of Human Sciences, the College of Forest Resources, and the College of Veterinary Medicine of Mississippi State University or of other insti tutions offering comparable degrees, who have rendered service to the cause of agriculture development in Mississippi, provided that they shall have been graduated for at least five years. Not more than four alumni shall be elected to membership in any one year.
